We’ve listed the results of our couch lock strain growing research and the characteristics profiles of each seed below. You’ll be able to see the benefits of their grow and some general information about the bud as well.

*Strains are ranked in no particular order.

1. MK Ultra

MK Ultra might not be the ultimate couch lock strain, but it’s certainly close. This strain hits you hard with a cerebral, uplifting and relaxing effect and doesn’t let up. With 21% THC, it’s also a heavy hitter in other ways.

MK Ultra is also 50% Indica and 50% Sativa. While the Indica traits come through on the high, you’ll still get that Sativa bushy growth and yield. That’s to be expected with legendary parentage like G-13 and OG Kush. However, she stays short, averaging just around 3 feet. Plus, with a seed to chop as short as 10 weeks in some cases, this strain keeps on giving.

On average, you’ll get 300-350 grams of quality couch lock weed from this strain. You can get higher ranges by using techniques like Screen of Green, managing the light, and using good nutes. However, she is susceptible to mold so invest in ventilation if you’re going for an indoor grow.

  • Indica/Sativa: 50% Indica/50% Sativa

In fact, Super Skunk remains one of the world’s favorite highs. That’s why she’s available in coffee shops the world over. And, with a harvest of 400g of sticky bud, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to veg out and enjoy the ride.

Super Skunk delivers an incredibly balanced cerebral high complete with high CBD. That makes for an amazing, couch-locking high that will have you coming back.

Blueberry is also a great choice for beginning growers. It doesn’t matter if you plan to grow indoors or outdoors. Blueberry just delivers. You’ll get 400g of beautiful purple bud from this plant in October outside. Indoors, you’ll see less purple, but the weed will taste the same.

However, you do want to keep your plants dry. Rain can result in top rot. It’s also a great idea to use stress training or Screen of Green for maximum yield. Plus, if you want extracts, this strain’s thick crystal coating covers the leaves, so you’ll get plenty of premium trim as well.

This strain isn’t really named because it hits like a rhino, rather after than dense white trichomes, but it might as well be. This strain hits hard and stays hard, in a gentle, uplifting kind of way. That makes it a favorite couch weed among even experienced growers.

Additionally, White Rhino blends an all-time favorite, White Widow, with an American Landrace. The Canadian Maple Leaf Indica contributes a lot to the plant’s flavor in the form of rich trichomes and high CBD content.

White Rhino performs well indoors or out. She also works well with hydro, but you’ll lose some flavor. Additionally, this busy indica definitely performs well with topping. Use Sea of Green or Screen of Green for optimal results.

In addition, it’s a perfect plant to grow at home. Northern Lights is easy and that holds true even if you’re a beginner. In fact, she offers extremely good disease and mildew resistance. The Dutch-bred indica strain is also a great choice for indoors or out. If you grow indoors, use good lights. Outdoors, you’ll get a predictable harvest in early October.

Plus, with up to 600g of white, sticky bud per plant, Northern Lights delivers high yields. That’s one of the reasons why she’s a favorite. Plus, good flavor, good highs, and even high CBD make this strain hard to go wrong with.

This plant is also great for yield. Outdoors, you’ll see anywhere from 400-700g per plant depending on phenotype, weather, and care. More sun normally means more bud. However, you can get very good results indoors with Screen of Green.

Plus, the bud you do get is phenomenal. Her high yield, great resin content, and big buds make this strain incredibly popular for every grower. Most importantly, Afghan’s sticky buds deliver one of the best couch locks you’ll ever get from a pure Indica.

8. Rocklock

This 80% Indica strain is relatively new, but she’s an incredible couchlock grow. Rocklock blends Warlock with Rockstar, delivering a high THC and low CBD resin-packed bud. Plus, with up to 600g per square meter indoors, this is a great choice for an indoor grow.

Rocklock offers massive amounts of sticky, orange-coated buds. You’ll get high resin count, typical of Indica strains. That makes her ideal for extracts – which fits in well with her medicinal profile.

If you do grow her indoors, choose 600w + lights. You also want to use training like Screen of Green. Flowering should take just 8 weeks. You will need some air circulation. However, the strain shows good resistance to mold and fungus.

Outdoors, keep her on a trellis. This strain can get big, but not so much you have to worry. And, so long as you can provide light and sun outdoors, she’s mostly good to go.

LSD is a classic the world over and has been for decades. Legend has it, this couch locking strain was Jimmi Hendrix’s favorite. But, you don’t have to go by the word of old-school rockstars, LSD is still one of the most popular coffee-shop strains out there.

At home, LSD is also a star. This may be one of the few Sativa-dominant strains on this list, but trait-wise, she shows up as indica. You get a dense, shorter plant, covered with crystal. And, when you harvest, you’ll get a very predictable average of 500g per plant. These thick green buds don’t look particularly special. However, you smoke them and you’ll get one of the most famous, heavy psychoactive highs out there.

If you’re ready to grow, this plant is easy. Start her early indoors. If you keep her there, use stress training to keep her short and bushy. Sea of green is always an excellent choice. Outdoors, make sure you stake her when it starts to get windy. Otherwise, with some light pruning, you’ll get a great yield.

With up to 28% THC content, it’s also easy to see why. Black Widow hits hard, but in a soft, uplifting, and body buzzing kind of way. Don’t expect to get anything done after even a small amount of this bud.

Like LSD, Black Widow is also Sativa dominant. You’ll still get an incredible couch lock, with a emotional and cerebral high. Plus, Black widow is remarkably resistant to pests, mold, and mildew. However, you’ll want to keep her covered if you grow outdoors. That’s important, because top rot is a concern.

Otherwise, this strain is easy. She just takes a bit longer, with a flowering time of 10-14 weeks. But, that patience will pay off, with an average yield of 400g per plant.

  • Indica/Sativa: 40% Indica/60% Sativa

11. Gorilla Glue #4 S1

Gorilla Glue #4 S1 is a reverse engineering of the original Gorilla Glue #4 clone. In fact, the strain was created by an accidental self-pollination of a hermaphrodite. While that does mean this strain is more prone to hermaphrodites, it also means incredibly potent weed. The S1 strain was also backcrossed four times to improve line strength.

What do you get from that? A multiple award-winning strain that can go up to 30% on THC potency. However, you’re much more likely to see a sane 20%.

Plus, with an 8-9 week grow time, good indoor and greenhouse results, and a lot of flavors, this strain is an all-around goldmine. Of course, with different phenotypes, you’re likely to get flavors ranging from bubblegum to chocolate to lemon, but rarely in the same plant.

If you do grow Gorilla Glue #4 S1, pay attention. Check for pollen balls early and often. Otherwise, this strain is easy. She also responds well to stress training.

  • THC Levels: 15-28%
  • Indica/Sativa: 60% Indica/40% Sativa
  • CBD Levels: 0-3%
  • Outdoor Yield: (grams per square meter) 500 / 450-700g per plant

12. White Strawberries

White Strawberries is an extremely interesting modern hybrid. However, with two main phenotypes, you never quite know what you’re going to get. In fact, this hybrid can show as Sativa dominant or Indica dominant depending on phenotype. As you might predict, the Sativa-dominant pheno results in a very energetic high. The Indica dominant phenotype is one of the better couchlock strains you can grow. When will you find out what you have? Unfortunately, when it grows.

If you’re the sort to like surprises, White Strawberries is an incredible plant. In fact, this beautiful plant is a vigorous grower with very good disease and mold resistance. Plus, if you grow her outside, you’ll get a rich purple show near the middle of October. On the other hand, if you grow her indoors, you’ll get less color, but the same incredibly rich bud.

White Strawberry is famous for her insane trichome count. You’ll also get a dense carpeting of crystal. Plus, with normal yields ranging to 1000g + per plant, every bit of effort you do put in will be rewarded.

  • THC Levels: 18% (Medium)
  • Indica/Sativa: 50% Indica/50% Sativa

Crystal is an extremely vigorous cross between two of the world’s most popular cannabis strains. In fact, with Northern Lights and White Widow in the mix, it’s no wonder Crystal is a favorite. Additionally, Crystal delivers incredibly high THC levels. Her 25% + THC means she’s not suited for beginners. However, this plant is very easy to grow. You’ll have no trouble at all taking this beauty from seed to a plant with 400g+ of white, sticky bud. Even if it’s your first time grow.

This strain is also extremely convenient for indoor and outdoor grows. For example, she rarely goes over 3 feet indoors. Outdoors, she will get taller. However, her Indica roots mean you’ll get a busy plant with huge central colas. Use low stress training outdoors. Indoors, definitely go for Sea of Green, she’s vigorous enough to take it extremely well.

Otherwise, this plant is very, very easy.

  • THC Levels: 20-25% (high)
  • Indica/Sativa: 60% Indica/40% Sativa
  • CBD Levels: Less than 1% (low)
  • Outdoor Yield: 400-500g per square meter/ 400g per plant

Strawberry Kush delivers legendary strawberry flavors and even more legendary couch lock highs. This Indica-dominant strain also delivers a relatively light couch lock, perfect for new smokers or those without tolerance. You’ll enjoy a light floating high that leaves you wanting to relax – but you can still get up and move if needed. That makes it a perfect weekend toke, ideal if you don’t have too much to do but maybe still want to make dinner.

Strawberry Kush is also very easy to grow. However, she grows fast and some attention is needed. Plants get bushy and will need some pruning or stress training to ensure light gets to all the buds. That makes her a great candidate for Sea of Green. However, in some cases, Strawberry Kush is too fast for high stress training.

Additionally, while Strawberry Kush is great indoors and out, she’s better in cooler environments. If you live on the west coast, you might want to keep her indoors.

It’s also relatively easy to grow – providing you have grow lights or live in a very sunny climate. If you don’t get 16 hours of light a day, you probably don’t want to grow this beauty outdoors.

Indoors, or in a sunny climate, Master Kush delivers big yields, high THC, and fast growth. You’ll also get beautiful buds tinted with orange trichomes, and THC up to 25%. Plus, with an incredibly relaxing, couch-locking high, this strain delivers everything you can ask for. Additionally, unlike many other couch lock strains, this one doesn’t give you that cerebral buzz. Instead, it’s all body high and relaxation.

If you’re growing her indoors, use a stress training method. Consider using hydro if you’re concerned about feed. And, more light means more weed, so don’t skimp on the grow lights.

  • THC levels: 18-25% (high)
  • Indica/Sativa: 95% Indica/5% Sativa
  • CBD Levels: Less than 1% (Low)
  • Flowering Time: 9 weeks / Late October

  • Optimal Climate: Temperate and sunny
  • Genetics: Hindu Kush x Skunk #1

  • Flavors/Aroma: Earth, Dank, Citrus, Sweet

16. OG Kush

OG Kush shares a lot of genetics with Master Kush. It’s also well-known as one of the most popular cross-breeding strains. But, if you’re not one to go for extensive hybrids, this old-school favorite remains a winner. OG Kush delivers intense, couch-locking highs that will leave you happy, relaxed, and uplifted.

The strain also delivers high yields, good growth, and a lot of resin. However, like the other Kush strains, she responds to sunlight. The more light you give her, the better your weed. That means it’s always a good idea to grow her outdoors in sunny climates. Otherwise, indoors might get you better results.

If you do grow her inside, invest in fans. OG Kush is sensitive to humidity, and you could get powdery mildew. Outdoors, she’ll finish in Early October. In either case, you’ll average a steady 450g per plant.

17. Shark Shock

If you want extracts, this incredible strain is one of the best options on the market. Shark Shock delivers an incredibly relaxing, couch-lock effect. But, its real draw to growers is usually the amazing density of resin coating every leaf. The result, a sugary coating across even larger leaves, for a plant that’s as stunning as it is potent.

Plus, this White Widow x Skunk #1 cross delivers in other ways. Shark Shock is relatively easy to grow. She also harvests easily indoors, outdoors, or in a greenhouse – with yields up to 600g per square meter. And, with a relatively compact structure, Shark Shock is a great choice for stress training.

What Does Couch Lock Mean?

Couch lock is the term used to describe a specific type of high. In most cases, this is relaxing, sedative, happy, and uplifted. You feel so happy and relaxed, you don’t want to get off the couch.

Of course, “Couch Lock” can mean many different things. For example, some strains are so heavy you almost can’t move. Others are light and just feel like being wrapped in a warm blanket to chill and enjoy. Plus, strains affect different people in different ways. Most people prefer a good Indica couch lock. Sativa strains tend to be much heavier, when they don’t provide an energetic high. Eventually, the top couch lock strains will depend on your preference for high.

What Types of Weed Causes Couch Lock?

Indica strains are most well-known for couch lock. However, most strains on the market are hybrids. That normally means you’ll have to look at effects on a plant-by-plant basis. On the other hand, most Kush strains tend to have a couch lock effect.

Otherwise, there are very few ways to predict that a plant will or will not couch lock. Choose a good relaxing and sedative strain and it’s likely to have a couch lock.

Next Steps

If you want to relax, a good couch lock weed will do the trick. At the same time, the best couch lock strains depend on your preferences, tolerance, and climate. One strain might be perfect for your preference but won’t do so well outdoors. Others might tick all the boxes. The only way to find out is to experiment, try different strains, and see what you like. Our research should be a starting point for your own.
