Top 19 Highest Yielding Indoor Strains: 2022 Comparison

Growing weed indoors is the easiest way to get a good crop, no matter your climate. For those in urban areas, it’s also the only option. Of course, if you are growing indoors, you likely still want a big yield. The alternative is to choose auto-flower strains. However, the best yielding indoor strains can triple the harvest of an autoflower – meaning you’ll spend less time growing and more time enjoying.

Growing these high yield strains indoors is not a sure thing for a good harvest. You’ll also have to provide enough light, feed your plants, and prune. That means investing in lights, using care techniques, and managing growth throughout the plant’s lifecycle. Once you do, these high yielding strains will ensure you get plenty of bud from every plant.

The table below gives a quick comparison of the best indoor strains for yield and potency:

StrainsIndoor Yield (grams per square meter)Grow Time (flowering time in weeks)

Importantly, these yields are estimates based on ideal conditions. Actual yield will depend on conditions such as light, humidity, nutrition, soil PH, and temperature. For most cannabis plants, more light, heat, and humidity mean more bud.

Below we have outlined each high yielding indoor strain in more detail. Note that strains are not ranked in any particular order.

1. Northern Lights

Northern Lights is a growers favorite. With Thai and Afghani landrace genetics, this close-to-pure Indica puts off big yields with very little fuss.

Northern Lights is most well known for her high CBD and THC content, leading to incredible floating highs. But, growers also love outputs of up to 600g per square meter with good care. However, without topping and Screen of Green techniques, Northern Lights is more likely to put out 400g.

Otherwise, this strain is easy, disease resistant, and ideal in most environments, even if you can’t keep your grow room as dry as you’d like.

  • Flowering Time: 48-53 days
  • Hybrid (95% Indica, 5% Sativa)
  • CBD: Up to 10% (High)
  • THC:20-23% (High)
  • Plant Size: Large
  • Genetics: Thai and Afghani Landrace
  • Easy to grow
  • High resistance to disease and weather
  • Estimated indoor yield: 300-400g
  • Typical Effects: Relaxation, Sedation, Pain Relief, Body Buzz
  • Smell & Taste: Earthy, Pine wood, Pungent, Sweet

2. White Widow

White Widow is a classic, both for its high yield and popular highs. If you want to grow a lot of weed, this strain performs consistently in most environments.

While that may not be quite why White Widow remains the queen of the Dutch coffee shop, it certainly makes her popular across the globe. Indoors, you’ll definitely want to do heavy pruning and keep good lights for maximum yield.

However, this easy-growing plant is disease and mold resistant, delivers high resin production on leaves for good trim utilization. Plus, she performs well with Sea of Green (SoG) and Screen of Green (SCRoG) methods to increase yield.

  • Flowering Time: 53-64 days
  • Hybrid (60% Sativa/40% Indica)
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: 20-22% (High)
  • Plant Size: Large
  • Genetics: Unknown
  • Easy to grow
  • High resistance to disease and weather
  • Estimated indoor yield: 400-500g per square meter
  • Typical Effects: Uplifting, Relaxation, Energy, Happy
  • Smell & Taste: Fruit, Pine, Pungent, Sweet

3. Super Skunk

Super Skunk blends Afghani and Skunk #1. With high-yield parentage like this, you’d expect a big crop, and you’d be right. Super Skunk performs, with yields of up to 600g per square meter indoors.

Additionally, this beauty responds to light and feed. The more light, the bigger the buds. Super Skunk flowers quickly, tolerates even very high temperatures, and makes a great tent grow. You can also get away with simple topping or pruning big leaves to get a high yield.

Essentially, this strain is low maintenance and high yield. Plus, you’ll get a massive hit of THC, up to 2.4% CBD, and a high that medical and recreational users rave about.

  • Flowering Time: 53-63 days
  • Hybrid: 80% Sativa/20% Indica
  • CBD Up to 2.4% (High)
  • THC 19% (High)

  • Estimated Indoor Yield: 400-600 g per square meter
  • Typical Effects: Body Buzz, Relaxation, Calming, Happy
  • Smell & Taste: Sweet, Pungent, Spicy

4. Alaskan Purple

This beautiful plant is known for gorgeous, strawberry buds and purple leaves, but you’ll also get a massive yield. With a yield averaging 550g per square meter and frequently going well over, this is one of the best indoor strains for yield and potency.

If that doesn’t grab your attention, Alaska Purple’s berry aromas and fruity taste certainly will. That, plus an incredibly temperature tolerance makes Alaska Purple a joy to grow.

On the other hand, you will want to prune and use topping techniques to get maximum yield in a tent. Alaska purple clones well, but given space, light, and feed, a single plant can take up a considerable amount of space.

  • Flowering Time: 63 days
  • Hybrid (Indica dominant)
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC 15-20% (medium)
  • Plant Size: Large
  • Genetics: Purple Alaskan, Kush, Brazilian Sativa
  • Estimated Indoor Yield: 550-1700 g per square meter
  • Easy to grow

  • Taste & Smell: Berry, flowery, fruity, sweet

5. Gelat OG

Gelat OG blends two of our favorite strains to create a stunning mix of high yield and great flavor. In fact, Gelat OG has become so popular it’s regarded as perhaps the best indoor strain for yield and potency.

But, if yield is what you’re looking for, this beauty delivers. With good conditions indoors, Gelat OG delivers up to 600g of bud per square meter. Those buds are also incredibly light green and white with resin, and pack a punch of up to 25% THC>

Gelat’s also more known for flavor than pure yield. And with parentage like Gelato, it’s easy to see why. Gelato offers sweet citrus, floral, and earthy notes. Use a bigger pot with topping for a larger plant and more yield.

  • Flowering Time: 55-60 days
  • Hybrid (65% Indica, 35% Sativa)
  • CBD: 1% (Medium)
  • THC: 25% (high)
  • Plant Size: Large

6. Blue Ice OG

While wildly touted as one of the best first-time indoor grows, Blue Ice OG also stands out for high yield. However, growers looking for high THC percentages should look elsewhere.

Blue Ice OG blends Blueberry Ice and OG Kush to offer an intense, berry-flavored plant with up to 500g of production per meter. Additionally, a vigorous vegetative state means this plant grows big and wide quickly, making it ideal for stress training and Screen of Green methods.

Most growers also love the intense dark blue buds take on when temperatures drop below 50 degrees. However, indoors, it’s unlikely you’ll see it. Instead, you’ll get great yield, rich flavor, and an incredibly easy plant.

  • Flowering Time: 60 days
  • Hybrid: (Indica/Sativa)
  • CBD: 1% (Medium)
  • THC: 10-15% (low)

7. Big Bud

If you want the strain known for high yield, Big Bud might be it, although OG Kush is a close competitor. Big Bud delivers up to 600g per square meter with easy care.

In fact, Big Bud is one of the oldest of the high producing “commercial” strains. It’s bred to be grown in bulk in a greenhouse, and you’ll easily grow huge plants in tents with simple light setups. Big Bud also lives up to its name. With good light and feed, you’ll get massive, intense, green buds with up to 17% THC.

Of course, Big Bud also has caveats. For one, buds get so big and sticky, branches are liable to snap if you don’t’ stake them. Use Screen of Green or staking to ensure she stays strong throughout flowering.

  • Flowering Time: 56-63 days
  • Hybrid: (60% Indica, 40% Sativa)
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: 15-17% (Low)

8. Amnesia Haze

Amnesia haze is a classic, beloved for high output, ease of growth, and manageable size. With pruning, Amnesia will give you 500+ grams per square meter and up to 700 with screen of green and topping techniques.

Plus, if impressive yield weren’t enough, Amnesia Haze is beloved for her euphoric and invigorating highs. Growers also appreciate relatively compact sizes, which don’t typically exceed 4 feet indoors.

Of course, with a 10-week flowering period, you will have to wait longer for this than many other indoor strains. At the same time, Amnesia’s big green buds and 16.7% THC are well worth the wait.

  • Flowering Time: 63-70 days
  • Hybrid: (Indica/Sativa)
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: 16.7-21% (Medium)

  • Typical Effects: Creative, Uplifting, invigorating, euphoria
  • Taste & Smell: Lemon, earth

9. Strawberry Kush

Strawberry Kush brings together fast flowering, high yield, and a sweet flavor that’s hard to resist. That makes this high yield strain an excellent choice for nearly every indoor grower.

While Strawberry Kush offers yields of up to 700 grams per meter, this is a short plant. Most won’t reach three feet. However, growers should watch out for bush growth, which can prevent light from reaching buds and lower yield. Crop or use Sea of Green or Screen of Green for maximal yield.

That aside, this strain will bloom and thrive in most weather. You will want to use hefty lights, but don’t worry about the temperature, because Strawberry Kush isn’t.

  • Flowering Time: 53 days
  • Hybrid: 75% Indica, 25% Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: up to 18% (Medium)

10. Chocolope

Chocolope soars up to 600+ grams per square meter, making it one of the highest yield strains you can choose. This strain also delivers with an incredibly energetic high, leading to it being known as the coffee of cannabis.

While Chocolope is high yielding, this hybrid is also well known for rich chocolate tones, a relative rarity in the cannabis world. That, plus ease of growth has won this beauty 4 cannabis cups since her release in 2008.

What else? Chocolope grows big. You’ll have to manage your tent and space to get in more plants. However, she’s also ideal for Sea of Green and supercropping.

  • Flowering Time: 56-63 days
  • Hybrid: indica/Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1%
  • THC: 12-15%
  • Plant Size: Large
  • Genetics: OG Chocolate, Cannalope Haze
  • Estimated Indoor Yield: 500-700g
  • High resistance to disease and weather
  • Typical Effects: Energizing, creative, euphoria, happy

11. Critical Mass

With lineage built on the same genetics as Big Bud, it’s no surprise that Critical Mass is perhaps the most popular commercial strains today. Critical Mass delivers consistent yields of 650-700g per square meter indoors that’s hard to match elsewhere.

While Critical Mass is maybe the most popular high yield cannabis strain, it also offers great flavor and an incredibly heavy high. It’s also relatively easy to grow. However, buds grow so dense you’ll want to keep the grow room dry to prevent mold or mildew.

Finally, Critical Mass doesn’t need any particular grow techniques to offer a huge yield. Just trim the big leaves, stake her to ensure the stems don’t snap and break under the weight of your weed, and you’re good to go.

  • Flowering Time: 56 days
  • Hybrid: Indica/Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1% (low)
  • THC: Up to 24% (high)
  • Plant Size; Large

12. Chronic

Chronic blends some of the world’s most popular weed plants to create a 7 times award-winning strain. This plant is ideal for beginners looking for big colas and high yields.

While Chronic offers up to 600g indoors, it’s also incredibly popular for its manageable size, sweet smell, and ease of growth. Additionally, it’s great for beginners. Chronic grows a huge central cola with a few small branches, meaning no pruning and no trimming. Don’t try training, just let her grow.

After 63 days of flowering, you’ll be rewarded with a massive cola full of sweet popcorn buds that, when properly cured, retain that sweetness.

  • Flowering Time: 58-63 days
  • Hybrid: (indica/Sativa)
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: Untested (Medium)
  • Genetics: Northern Lights, Skunk X Northern Lights, AK-47

13. Industrial Plant

Industrial plant was bred for commercial growth, leading to a short stature and high yield. That, plus short flowering times make it ideal for growers who prioritize quantity.

Of course, Industrial Plant is a strain that also delivers a potent physical and cerebral high. It’s also popular for lemon and pepper scents topped with pine. And, with just 45-50 days of flowering time, this strain’s 625 grams of yield will come fast.

In fact, this might be one of the fastest flowering high yield strains. You can also increase yield with Screen of Green or Sea of Green techniques. Other than that, this plant excels in every climate, but the more light the better.

  • Flowering Time: 45-50 days
  • Hybrid: Indica/Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC 10-14% (Low)
  • Genetics: Afghani X Thai

14. Black Sugar

Black Sugar is an easy-going Black Domina, L.A. OG, and Critical cross, delivering high yields of up to 600g per square meter. This strain is ideal for beginning indoor growers, thanks to its low feeding needs and strong growth.

While Black Sugar is a short plant, that doesn’t take away from yield. However, while compact means easy to fit into small spaces, this is not a stealth grower. Black Sugar’s dense, sticky buds smell (a lot).

On the other hand, this fast-growing plant needs little care or attention. You can use pruning or topping to increase yield, but with some top leaf removal, you’ll already get a big yield. However, bush branches are ideal for Sea of Green and Screen of Green methods.

  • Flowering Time: 50-53 days
  • Hybrid: Indica/Sativa
  • CBD: 1% (medium)
  • THC: 20% (medium)
  • Genetics: Black Domina, L.A. OG, Critical

15. White Widow x Big Bud

For growers in search of a fast flowering, high yield psychedelic weed, the White Widow X Big Bud is it. This strain flowers in just 7 weeks, with harvests of 500-600g per square meter.

Plus, with incredibly resinous leaves and buds, the White Widow X Big Bud makes a good choice for trim extractors to get more from the plant. Buds are small, dense, and resinous. Additionally, you can get more of them by using low stress training topping, allowing the plant to focus on growing buds bigger. With an average plant size of 2-3 feet, that’s generally very easy.

Other than that, this plant is less hardy than White Widow or Big Bud. Be careful with feed to prevent root burn. You’ll also want to lower humidity during the final stage of flowering to prevent mildew.

  • Flowering Time: 49 days
  • Hybrid: Indica/Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: Untested (High)
  • Genetics: Big Bud, White Widow
  • Estimated Indoor Yield: 500-600g per square meter
  • High resistance to weather, low resistance to disease
  • Typical Effects: Body high, cerebral, sedative, relaxed,
  • Taste & Smell: Skunk, Floral

16. Power Plant

Power Plant is a classic Dutch Passion strain bred for commercial growth. It blends African landraces for a consistent high-yield crow and high THC production.

Power Plant’s genetics means it grows well in very lit tents with high humidity. You’ll also want to use low-stress training or topping – but with small leaves, leaf pruning isn’t as necessary for a bigger yield. Power Plant also delivers incredibly dense buds, packed with trichomes and resin. That makes for an uplifting and energetic high that makes this strain a classic for shops.

Power Plant does best with more light and high humidity, but is relatively low stress. However, this strain is highly sensitive to overwatering in during the vegetative stage, so be careful and you’ll have a good, strong plant come flowering.

  • Flowering Time: 56-70 days
  • Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: 15-20% (Medium)
  • Genetics: Sativa African landrace

This strain combines two of the world’s favorite cannabis strains, and coincidentally, two with the highest yield. The result, a fast-growing, high-yield hybrid with incredibly high resin production.

Additionally, this strain stays small, with heights not topping 3 feet. On the other hand, you’ll get up to 600g per square meters indoors, in just 8 weeks. While Northern Lights X Big Bud responds well to no training, you’ll get a higher yield with low-stress training and Screen of Green techniques.

Northern Lights X Big Bud is also very easy to grow indoors, making it a top choice for beginning growers.

  • Flowering Time: 55 Days
  • Hybrid: Indica/Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1% (Low)
  • THC: 18% (Medium)
  • Genetics: Northern Lights, Big Bud

18. Master Kush x Skunk

Master Kush X Skunk is a reliable, high yield strain with consistent high output. If you want a reliable, indoor grower and have good (600watt +) lights, this strain is an easy choice.

While Master Kush x Skunk is relatively new, it’s already popular for high yields of 500-600g per square meter. Big, dense buds can weigh down and snap branches, so make sure you use a trellis or Screen of Green technique to support the buds. Additionally, you’ll want to use topping or pruning to ensure lower branches get enough light for the colas to get big.

Once you do, this strain will reward with big buds, easy growth, and a sweet, earthy aroma.

  • Flowering Time: 49-63 days
  • Hybrid: Indica/Sativa
  • CBD: Less than 1% (low)
  • THC: 15-18% (Medium)

19. Super Silver Haze

Super Silver Haze is prized for high production and great highs. The strain mixes Northern Lights and Skunk #1 to make one of the industry’s most popular plants.

While Skunk #1 rose to fame in the late 90s after winning 3 consecutive cannabis cups, it’s retained its pride of place as one of the best. It’s also easy to see why, with yields of up to 600g per square meter with good lights and care.

Super Silver Haze is an ideal choice for screen of green and low-stress training. You’ll also have to prune the top leaves to get a good crop. If you do, you’ll get massive colas covered with trichomes and sticky resins, for a cerebral and potent high.

  • Flowering Time: 70-85 days
  • Hybrid (10% Indica/90% Sativa)

Crop Yield Factors: How To Increase Yield Indoors

If you’re growing cannabis, you obviously want the highest yield possible. While it’s easy to choose heavy yielding cannabis strains, the strain doesn’t entirely make or break production. Instead, you’ll have to consider factors like light, feed, training, and plant health.

1. Light

For most cannabis strains, more light means more bud. Indoor growers can maximize this by choosing a grow tent, selecting grow lights of 600+ watts (1000+ is also good), and using a good light schedule. Most of these plants respond well to 18-20 hours of light a day during flowering, which you only bring down when you want to mature the plant. Finally, choose a white, full-spectrum light for the best results.

2. Feed

Nutrients are essential to good growth. In fact, nutrient deficiencies can kill your plant faster than anything else. Make sure you buy a feed and use it according to the instructions. Plus, too much feed can kill by burning the roots. Don’t overdo it. For the best results, choose a vegetative feed and then switch to a flowering feed to prompt bud growth.

3. Training

Training refers to “low-stress training” or “high-stress training” and pruning. These involve bending, wiring, and shaping your plant to maximize light access to every branch and potential cola. The earlier you start training, the easier it will be. Not every high yield cannabis strain responds well to training. However, for most, it will make a big difference in yield.

4. Plant Health

Individual plant health makes a lot of difference in terms of yield. Sometimes seeds are weak or strong. Overwatering results in weak roots and root rot. Under watering results in poor nutrient distribution. Keep a good watering schedule to keep your plant healthy. If you have open windows or ventilation, you’ll also want to consider mites. However, you don’t normally want to use preventive insecticide, because you’ll taste it in the buds. Finally, many strains are vulnerable to mildew and mold. It doesn’t matter how many colas you have if you have to chop before they mature. If possible, lower the humidity in your grow room during the final weeks of flowering to ensure a clean harvest.

Summary

If you want to grow indoors, more is obviously better. Growing any of these high yield strains indoors will help ensure your harvest pays off. At the same time, even the best yielding indoor strains won’t produce well without good care and better light. The best thing you can do for an indoor grow is to invest in good lights.

Other than that, simple care, pruning, and low-stress training are usually the fastest ways to getting a good indoor harvest.
